The Accident Lawyers Network BlogAccident Lawyers NetworkMonday, November 28, 2011Truck Accident in Washington Spills Thousands of Gallons of FuelA passenger vehicle attempting to cross several lanes of traffic collided with a tanker truck carrying fuel on Sunday night near Bellevue, Washington. The collision caused the tanker to hit the jersey barrier, roll over and spill the fuel. It is believed that nearly half of the 7000 gallons of fuel spilled from the truck. According to authorities, the fuel spill onto the road, into soil and storm drains and made its way into Lake Washington. However, it is unclear how much made it into the lake. Hazmat teams were on the scene, but arrived too late to prevent the gas from reaching the lake. The trucking company has hired a contractor to clean up the spill. The truck accident closed I-405 for five hours while crews cleaned up the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. There was no word on the condition of the truck driver. Spills are just another effect of truck accidents. When the truck spills its load into nearby rivers or lakes, the toxicity of the fuel poisons the water, and can potentially harm many people who depend on the water for consumption.
