Car Accident Pins Victims beneath Vehicle in Oregon
A 2000
Oldsmobile slid off the edge of an icy Oregon highway, crashing nearly 150
below on Saturday, January 26. Two of the vehicle’s four occupants were ejected
in the early morning car
accident. One suffered minor injuries, but the second victim’s head was
pinned beneath the wreckage.
The driver
was able to flag down a passing car for help. That person had to climb a hill
to get cell phone service in order to call 911.
Rescue
workers and volunteers used a rappelling system to reach the victim who was
pinned, and managed to get the car off of her. She was then roped up to the
road and sent by ambulance to Portland.
One of the
perils of driving during the winter and spring months in most of the country is
slick roads and highways. Every year people suffer serious personal injury or
death due to road conditions. Some things you can do to avoid car accidents on
slick roads include watch the weather; pay attention for icy spots on the
roads, especially near bridges and overpasses; go slower than you usually
would; watch out for other drivers.
