2012 Sees More Motor Vehicle Fatalities

According to preliminary statics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), fatal auto accidents during the first nine months of 2012 were up 7.1 percent from the same period in 2011.
From January to September in 2012, the NHTSA reports 25,580 people were fatally injured in auto accidents. During this same time-frame in 2011, 23,884 people were fatally injured in similar accidents. The NHTSA further reports that total miles driven in 2012 were up only .6 percent from 2011, making it clear that the increase in fatal accidents did not correspond to a substantial increase in motor vehicle traffic.
