Five people were killed and four seriously injured when a Toyota Prius slammed head on into a Chevy Blazer on Sunday, October 10 in Michigan.

The car accident near Green Oak Township, Michigan happened around 3:30 in the afternoon. Police say the Prius carrying four people crossed the center median and hit a Blazer carrying five people. Three people were thrown from the wreckage and the others were pinned and had to be extricated.

The victims in the Prius included an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old girl. There is no information on the driver who was killed. An 18-year-old male is listed in critical condition. A 62-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man were both killed in the Blazer. Three children, ages 3, 5, and 10 were all in the Blazer and are listed in serious condition.

The four survivors were taken to the University of Michigan Hospital.

It is unknown at this time why the Prius crossed the center line. US Interstate 23 was closed for five hours while authorities were investigating.
