The bus then tipped over and slid. Four people were killed and nearly 20 injured. Four of the injured were in serious condition following the Sept. 12 bus accident. It is believed that one of the passengers killed was thrown from the bus and the other three were on the top level. Survivors say the bus accident occurred while many were sleeping. Some say they woke up when they heard the accident and felt the damage. One said she awoke after the crash to pain, glass all over the place and a woman lying across her. She alleges she could see a severed leg beneath the bus and an unconscious man hanging from the second level. Authorities say the bus was at least a mile off its route when the bus accident occurred. According to police, the driver is in the hospital with head injuries. He missed his turn and did not know where he was. He was supposed to stop for a half hour at the Regional Transportation Center in Syracuse before making another stop in Buffalo. However, he wound up on the lakeside parkway. There are warning signs that the bridge clearance is 10 feet nine inches. The bus was around 13 feet high.
