Van and Truck Collision Kills Seven
A state van carrying applicants for prison jobs collided with a tractor trailer carrying wood products this morning on a rural highway near Montgomery, Alabama. All seven people in the van were killed in the fiery head-on collision. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident occurred on an isolated stretch of the highway just before 6 am about 20 miles from Montgomery. Authorities are still trying to determine the cause since early reports are varied. The charred van was overturned and beneath debris from the truck. Police say the only identifiable parts of the van were two tire rims.
